Summer 2007 Sailing Has Been Good at Kentlands, but....

We have heard from the Soccerplex management that they have identified a leak in the pond, and the fix is in process. This will probably take a few months so, in the interim, we'll continue to sail at the Kentlands.

Here's a map to Inspiration Lake in the Kentlands, Gaithersburg. For reference, this map shows the intersection of Route 28 and Rt. 124, Quince Orchard Blvd. If you approach the area on Great Seneca Highway, use the Kentlands Blvd. entrance to the Kentlands.

Yes, that's a Skipjack and a Marblehead

New Radios!

Many skippers have made the upgrade!

They work! These radios are fast becoming the standard upgrade. Take a look; we have many active in our club and they are a huge improvement over the stock radios. See the crystal-free, glitch-free, Spektrum DX6 DSM 2.4Ghz Spread Spectrum radios by clicking the link below or the image to the right. If you've suffered, as I and others definitely have, from radio interference, glitching, and the dreaded channel conflict, take a look at the future of RC.

Don't forget to take a look at the Yahoo CR-914 site featured in the most recent CRronicle. There's also a lot of great information on the Class page.

Click through our photo page for some photos of boats and people having fun. You should be in these pictures - if you aren't already.

Be sure to visit the CR-914 Class website. It's extremely well done, and there is a wealth of information - history, photos, CRonicle, tuning guides, rules - you name it. Check it out.

Join the BCMYC!

We're always looking for new sailors, regardless of skill or experience.

BCMYC By-laws explain membership dues and other formalities. Dues help pay for this web site, the buoys we race around, and prizes, to name a few. Contact our Rear Commodore Randall Stark to become a member and arrange payment.

As you can see, our 2007 Season Opener was well-attended; we had 8 CRs and an assortment of others

Getting Started in Model Yachting

To get started in model sailing, we recommend visiting the sites below.

Racing Rules of Sailing

Our Race Director has done some research to save YOU some time. His comments:

I thought I might send you some links for the web site for Racing Rules.  There are really only three that are important.  They can all be found on this US Sailing page where they detail EVERYTHING for EVERYONE.

Here are links directly to the .pdf’s for the rules of sailing that matter to us.  There are 3 sections to the Racing Rules of Sailing 2005-2008 that apply to us.  Here they are:

  1. The rules themselves: Introduction, Basic Principles & Parts 1 to 7

  2. The definitions of the “stuff” referenced in the rules.  This is more important than it would seem: Definitions

  3. The Model Boat Racing Appendix.  This is where rules for Model racing are modified to allow things like hitting marks or the 4 boat-length rule: Appendices D - G

Don't forget to report your transmitter channel to the BCMYC Frequency Chairman. Check the Frequency Table to avoid or resolve conflicts, ideally before you buy equipment. Better yet, buy the Spektrum DX6 and say goodbye to R/C hassles.
